How to use Sound Solution with any application

The simplest way is to have a dedicated PC to run it, but if you want to use the same PC where your automation system (or any other audio source) is running, just follow the instructions below.

1) Buy Virtual Audio Cables (VAC) and install it on your PC.
Check it at NTONYX http://www.ntonyx.com/vac.htm or
visit the author's website http://spider.nrcde.ru/music/software/eng/vac.html
In both sites you can also download a demo version.

2)After installed, your system should see another audio card named "Virtual Cable 1 Out" (for sound output) and another one "Virtual Cable 1 In" (obviously for sound input). Check it in "Control Panel -> Multimedia".
Be sure that the default ouput card is "Virtual Cable 1 Out".

3) Now open your audio application, if it uses the default system audio card, you should not hear anything when it plays. On the contrary, if it directly controls the audio card, look into its preferences and set "Virtual Cable 1 Out" as the output audio card.

4) Install "Line In" plugin by J. Van Der Gronde in Winamp.
Once installed, go to Winamp Options->Preferences -> DSP -> Input
and configure "Line In" to process the audio coming from the board named
"Virtual Cable 1 In".
The processing parameters are: Sampling rate 44100Hz, Channels 2, Bits per sample 16.
For example, the configuration string on my system is:
line://dev=0,nch=2,bps=16,srate=44100,title=HIFI,hideformat
"dev=0" is because on my system the "Virtual Cable" device is the device n° 0.
On your system it could be different.

5) Just for checking, go to Dsp->Output and check (in the DirectSound or Nullsoft WaveOut) that the output board is now your "real" board (not the virtual one).

5) Close Winamp preferences and then press CTRL+L or go to the Play -> Location menu. Copy on the popup window the configuration string ("line://dev=0,nch=2,bps=16,srate=44100,title=HIFI,hideformat" for the previous example, without quotes), press play.

6) If all is ok, now your application should play through Winamp and Sound Solution on your PC speakers.
